Yesterday Caleb had another doctor's appointment. It was an appointment with the nauturopath and I was very nervous to have him go. He has been cheating a lot lately and I was nervous to see how that was going to affect his results. Just a 'teeny teeny taste' is something that we hear a lot and he seems to be drawn to all the things that he can't have - but I guess, who isn't? Lately he has been quite creative in finding things to eat. Just a few weeks ago I came downstairs in the morning after my early feeding with Arinn (5:00) and Caleb had helped himself to Carathy's halloween treat bag. (And yes, I know what you are going to say - why does she still have halloween candy left?) I came down the stairs to a pile of empty wrappers, a pair of scissors, and a very guilty looking boy. He just looked at me with chocolate on his face and said, 'Just a teeny, teeny taste candy.' Yep, he had used a chair to get the bag of candy, scissors to open all the packages, and had happily consumed all the candy that he had opened.
Just last weekend, I had been downstairs for only a couple of minutes one afternoon when he came downstairs to ask me something. I took one look of his face and was shocked. He looked like he had been beaten up! His eye was swollen and there was a large, red mark underneath his eye that continued down to his jawline, across his chin, and up the other cheek. My first thought was that he put something on his face that he was allergic to but then when Steven asked him about it, he said that he had eaten something of Carathy's. We asked him to show us what it was and he took us upstairs to their room. He opened a brown paper bag that she stored her Christmas crafts in (from Kindergarten) and took out a craft that she had decorated with icing mixed with glue and glitter. Apparently that combination doesn't agree with him, either.
As it turned out, his insulin levels were just fine so that was a huge answer to prayer. His wheat allergy has come down to the top of his 'limit list' and his dairy allergy has come down but is still to be avoided. I had been suspecting that he was allergic to cinnamon for a while and the appointment confirmed that. It disappoints me, though, because the only cereal that we found that he could eat had cinnamon on it and it was also his favorite snack. We will have to figure something out for that. For now, I am just happy that his teeny, teeny tastes haven't hurt him too much!
